First Friends Parent’s Day Out program is a quality infant, toddler, and pre-k program that caters to a child’s educational and emotional needs. Our school boasts small classes, educated and loving teachers, monthly chapel, and a robust curriculum. With our high teacher to student ratio, children receive ample 1 on 1 instruction. Graduating students are well prepared for the social and educational demands of Kindergarten. Our program also gives parents a means to connect with each other. We host monthly “parent’s night out” functions, game nights, craft nights, and mommy mingles, and festivals. Communication is clear and frequent so that parents know what is happening both in the classroom and for special events. First Friends is a special place where children can learn, play, grown and make lasting friendships in a nurturing, warm environment.
Established in 2012.
First Friends is a quality, faith-based program located in the education building of the oldest Lutheran church in Houston. The program was born out of the need to provide inner loop parents with quality part-time childcare at an affordable price.

My husband, Pastor Evan McClanahan, and I moved to Houston in late 2009 to take a call at Houston’s historic First Evangelical Lutheran Church. When the time came to put our infant daughter in a daycare program, we were disheartened by the options we found. I knew our daughter needed the socialization of a school setting, but didn’t want to stick in her in a program 5 days a week. The part-time programs I looked at in the loop were either way out of our price range or had 1 to 2 year long wait lists. Having come from a church in the DFW area that had a full-blown preschool, I was confident that we could pull off a 2-day/week Parent’s Day Out Program at our own church. What started as a small idea has quickly blossomed into a thriving school with a reputation for quality and flexibility. Having my own 2 children in the program motivates me to make First Friends a special place.
